My names Laura and I long to be apart of something bigger than just myself. I'm at constant change and war with myself. Slowly I'm figuring out who I am. I have appreciation for art and look up to those who have artistic abilities. Slowly letting go of the past and opening my eyes to see how beautiful life can really be. Only two animals in the world, humans and great apes, are able to recognize themselves in the mirror. To recognize yourself in a mirror you must have a self-concept, a mental image of yourself on which to base the match. Which, of course, raises the question of where the mental image came from. Are we constructing our sense of self by virtually superimposing other people’s faces on top of our own and somehow sensing the difference? Maybe this is why our self-assurance of our own beauty predictably goes down if we are asked to rate ourselves just after spending time with a substantially more attractive individual.
